Looking at mmmg's products makes me so happy!

( MMMG Goodness )
Here's to hoping that Sunkyung re-opens her shopping service soon~
In other news, I've um, procured Röyksopp's new album and :D I really like it! A bit too electronic-ish for my own liking but it's a really refreshing change. I do like the repetitive bits.

despot birdhouses and monstrous prints
Oct. 15th, 2008 10:34 pmIf you want your neigbhourhood's birds to grow up like little tyrants.
The Mussolini birdhouse is delicious, like a honeycomb. I think hive-like conglomerations when I see it. And Ceausescu's palace reminds me of something avant garde, something bauhaus. It's all very inanimately alive, if that makes sense.
And I love Japanese prints like this. This December, I'm thinking of drawing a lot, and drawing stylized Japanese monstrosities like this. Probably not paint them, but draw and sew up stuffed monsters.

Typographically delicious!

penguin great ideas series 3 - i want!
Sep. 3rd, 2008 04:04 pm
I'm sorry but I am rather in love with the typography. I have a thing for pure text designs (a.k.a typographical designs) and that kind of translates into most of the designing things that I do undertake. I like, words. I like stylized words, words as pictures - that sort of thing!
So beautiful covers + beautiful books = oh dear, I do not have enough money to continue this lifestyle of mine! Books, booze, plastic. Sigh! Luckily I'm not rather into clothes -- wait, I am into bags (like rucksacks, backpacks and messenger bags) so that's another munny-sucking love. D:

Mari-Brand
Mar. 28th, 2008 11:03 pmsemi-x-posted at Tachikomatic Days.

I headed down to BasheerCityRoom today with Sim in order to catch PlushismxMari-Brand's exhibition: Lush Plush Express.
It was fairly empty when we got there - in terms of both personages and plushes - cleaned out by overzealous zakka lovers I supposed and we ooh-ed and ah-ed over the lovely handmade goodies.
Mari-san was engrossed in making little Chikus (rabbit-birds) when we arrived so we initially contented oursevles with just puttering around and squee-ing over the sheer cuteness of her works. I didn't bring a camera along so no pictures of the place. D:
We finished picking ou the apples that we wanted (I WANT MOAR) and I picked out a Chiku and two postcards (I WANT MOAR) and then we wanted to pay. So I apprehensively went up to Mari-san and asked if we could pay.
She's the most adorable and humblest and nicest person ever - I don't think my frazzled mind can come up with a suitable adjective for her in the English language. After telling us that she can't speak English, I tried to speak to her in Japanese which er sadly kept on alternating between polite and casual forms and got the usual "your Japanese is very good!" from her. XDXDXD So I did the "ahhh no it still has a long way to gooo" reply (my computer is down, using another computer so no JP IME so TRANSLATED ENGLISH FOR NOW).
While she was making the invoices out, I chatted with her a bit! She asked me if I studied Japanese and I replied that I was studying it at the moment and etc, I told her how adorable her ringos were and then she asked if I'd been to Japan to which I very happily replied "YES! 5 TIMES!"
Actually I don' think I've been there five times. Four actually. I think. I can't remember. Not enough, though. XD
And she replied with honest amazement and a tinge of bemusement "5 times!! That's great!!" She asked me which parts of Japan I'd been to and I told her etcetc... Then I found out that she lived in Tokyo to which I said "Sugoi desu ne~~" which might have meant "you're awesome for living there (high costs, rate of being successful)" or "ahh tokyo's a wonderful place" - ah the ambiguities of Japanese - and she stated the town/area she stayed in (which I forgot, which might be good because people might stalk here LOL) and asked me if I knew where it was.
She also asked if Singapore had these kinds of zakka-ya (zakka shops) and I said, "not really O:". I'm sure we don't have many, if any at all. If we do, please enlighten me!
Oh man, talking to her was really nice. It made up for my horrible show at this afternoon's Japanese 2 skit presentation. I'm happy that I understood what she said and most importantly, she understood everything I was saying! Which means that something must be going right!
So anyway, we went and paid for our purchases and said good bye (FULL BOW FROM HER OMG) and left very happy people!
HERE'S MY BAG OF LOVELY ZAKKA.

Some huge images behind the cut. Not dial-up friendly!
( Ringo~ Ringo~ Ringo~ Ringo~ Ringo, daikazoku! )
I'm trying to wrangle more people into going down with me this Sunday before she leaves and before the exhibition closes so I can coughbuymoreplushescough say goodbye to Mari-san and take a few photos of the place and with her! :DDD I want to leave her a note too!
You can still visit Mari and Mari-Brand until Sunday! Details are on the above poster! Please do consider taking a look. She's a lovely person and her kind and meticulous personality certainly shows through her painstaking work!

I'm a huge fan of Hybrid Works and I diligently wait out every new release. <3 The new Yoritsuki set is out and hurrah! I get to pimp out my desktop yet again!
In other news, I owe quite a bit of ranting to whatever remotely interesting that has happened over the past few days but I'm procrastinating.
Like how I'm procrastinating over everything else like wtf the pages and pages of academic papers I have to write.
So screwed.

I think that guy in the centre is Lenin? He looks like a Lenin. BUT. THIS MIGHT BE LIKE A WHOLE FRENCH REVOLUTINONG and I wouldn't recognize any of them.

project runway this is not
Dec. 23rd, 2005 12:28 amAnd you thought Project Runway was exciting?
I kid you.
Here comes Project Baba x Baba.
He wants a pair of uniquemat slip-ons. But he has no money. Haha. So what's the plan? Design a pair! UNFORTUNATELY, his lovely sister is stuck with the job of painting it. And talking him out of weird designs. Thank God he doesn't want weird things like roses and skulls and what not. Praise the Lord. And thankeveryone because I know someone like Mr Imran D. Bustamam who will (most probably not be doing anything because my brother is indecisive like a girl) design the wtf damned pair of shoes. So HELLO? Need a good design-person? Go to Mr I. D. B. Haahaha. Sounds like some development board. But trust me, he's very very good at what he does. (Which is drumming and designing and they both start with D!)
Project BabaxBaba will also sadly be a one-week project (if it ever materializes) because wtf, he needs the shoe by 2nd January for his awards night. D:
Tsk. Young kids.
EDIT: And its done, all I have to do now is paint the shoe.
Thanks man, thanks.
EDIT:
and i should have known what i was in for
i should have hit the ground running
but i never saw it coming
you always acted like you've never been through this before
how would i have figured out?
EDIT @ 25 Dec:
Now I'm painting three shoes. Two for my brother and one pair for me. Why suddenly one pair for myself? It's an experiment of sorts. After listening to the above song I just thought "I want to have a pair of shoes with all my favourite lyrics and lines on them." And so it shall be done.
I kid you.
