what about construction workers?

So there's this whole hoo-ha about the gah-men building a dormitory over here in my estate.

And there was a petition being passed around (by this horrid old lady!) asking us to not support it.

But frankly speaking, aren't foreign workers people too? Dude, your 1.2 million dollar houses were renovated by them, you bitches. Seriously, while I'm not too comfortable with the fact, of all the 17 years I've lived here and with all the hundreds of foreign workers I've seen, they've never been a nuisance.

Singaporeans on the other hand like to have loud parties and park their cars in front of other people's houses. :\ So who's being the nuisance here!

So anyway, that old lady was horrible. She demanded that my father sign the petition, and when he said that he needed time to think about it, she went "Think what think? No need to think, just sign!"

I'm sorry, my family aren't like lemmings. We actually believe that foreign workers (and my dad, being er one of the most bias people I know, said this) are people too and need a place to say.

So kudos to the people who did not sign the petition because they believe in that.

well even though i don't stay in serangoon gardens, but i'm all for not building the dormitory there.

they say that they want sgoon gardens to be like holland v? n they are pulling down the old cinema complex to build something else in its stead. yet they are also considering housing foreign workers there? the two just don't mix.

and after having lived at ntu for one year, when you stop by boon lay mrt and jurong point, it's just swarming with foreign workers and just so off-putting and yes, you really feel unsafe, esp. at night or during the weekends when they are just all over the place. you're like a minority.

if u are a girl and walking across the interchange/mrt alone to take the bus, they really do stare at you, and this is when ur all covered up too.

plus during the nights, weekdays or weekends, they will just be loitering around open spaces, or sitting down on the grass/ledge/whatever open space they can find. really you wouldn't want them in your own backyard.

I think your dad is awesome to stand firm, but honestly, I wouldn't want them near my estate. Sembawang's already flooded with them because of the nearby shipyard and at night they always sit on the sidewalks and pavement drinking and making a din.

As much as I want to look at them as equals, they are really really annoying.
