In which the holidays start rather badly
May. 28th, 2004 10:55 pmIt amazes me at how we can understand other languages, and how our brain translates otherwise unknown syllables into coherant words with meanings. I've always disliked studying for chinese (or just studying, for that matter), but lately I've been thinking about how wonderful it is to know and understand such a comprehensive language. There's a word for everything, and there's always that tiny difference between the meaning of words. Chinese is a language to be loved, and not to be detested or abhorred. Sadly, many students here belong to the latter group, and I'm one of them (most of the time). If there was a system where I could learn chinese at my own pace, to cultivate a personal connection with my mother tongue, I'd gladly do so. Not this force-feeding system which leaves our brains drained. Most of us just forget what we've learnt after the exams are over. Le sigh.
There was a Meet-The-Parents session yesterday, and my mum went. Surprisingly, I didn't get any bad comments from the teachers at all, expect for a "She's not very attentive in class..." from my chemistry teacher. They all think that I'm good and nice. Yay. I'll get good testimonials from them afterall. >.>;;; We're supposed to write our own testimonials for Ms Jacob though. She's toolazy busy to do them for us. Bah.
The last day of school was a bore. We didn't have real proper lessons because the students taking Express Chinese were busy having extra lessons for the O levels on Monday. So I kinda flopped around the class and tried to lug home a stack of books. I shouldn't have even gone to school today. :\ Such a waste of time, when I could have stayed at homeand sleep and study for my chinese exam on Monday. The school is evil for having the Higher Chinese exam on the same day as the O level Chinese exam!!
I found a fellow schoolmate's lj while roaming around and I'm being all :D and D: about it. XD I never thought that people in my school would actually use lj (actually, I think more than 99% doesn't even know that lj exits). Like phoar. :\ This is enlightening.
XD I was having a political debate with my brother and father over supper just now. I spewed out all my history knowledge on that one. Instant revision. Just add food.
