Nice piece on the scholarship situation in Singapore.
Which coincidentally is no longer applicable to me. :\
Lee & Lee are studying in the UK now. In LSE and King's. Ugaah.
Gosh, I need one of these.
I'm planning a layout rehaul soon - discovered some nice little layouts that I can use for free - and chuck in a new set of userpics while I'm at it.It's effing tempting to go on the "sponsored" bandwagon just to get 15 userpics.
Yesterday while I was lying in bed, I had an overwhelming desire to have a dog. A shiba-inu to be precise. Or actually, any other dog (like SPOODLES, CAVOODLES, MOODLES, SCHNOODLES AND BORDLES. zomg!!!). I just had this feeling of wanting to look after something and take care of something that will respond back. Hahaha, oh dear.
I wonder why even though I love cats, I never actually considered getting one. I guess I'm a dog-person at heart. Though, I'll only seriously consider getting a puppy/dog when my mum retires or when I officially start working.
Then I'll have to make a trip down to the SPCA to see if any of the dogs there catch my eye. <3
ZOMG THIS POST HAS TURNED INTO A PET POST.
I think I have the lousiest taste ever when it comes to EGL but this looks nice - at least on the mannequin. And I love the lace-thingy on this. I think I'm like killing everyone with my horrible knowledge of technical clothing terms. Haha, I'm so weird
Mmm. Looking back at the Dream-Post I made just now(which is friends-locked muahaha) I have the sudden urge to sketch out the whole Tamaki thing. I SHALL. >D

Date: 2006-09-29 01:30 pm (UTC)terminally insane sociopath) can make it............well, I wouldn't want to live in that kind of society. He's right though, the best people always leave. *shrugs* Offhand, I can already think of at least 10 people who are ready to leave SG for good - and they're all talented and brillant people.

Date: 2006-09-29 02:11 pm (UTC)Then again, I'm going to study 'useless' subjects in NUS anyway. XDXDXD
Yeah, I'm upset with the current concept of scholarships where people like Gabriel Tan (I larf at his angelic name) have the upperhand at deceiving the interview-board for scholarships. I'm extremely idealistic and naive but to me scholarships are for able students who can't afford to go overseas - but that would be something like bursaries in our context. Hahah, I've always thought that poorer but intelligent people won't engulfed by egoism and become the typical disgusting PSC scholars because they know hardship and the value of money.
HAHAH WTF I AM SO NAIVE LAH.

Date: 2006-09-30 10:45 am (UTC)like Mr. Angel Gabriel) and whine about their angsty woeful "I-Am-Emo" lives (oooh yeah, that's suffering). Like if you read Lee Kuan Yew's memoirs, he mentions that he wishes to ABOLISH the "everyone can vote" system to allow "intellectuals" more votes. Go read it, just shows what a lousy democracy we are. It's scary how the interviews go. I mean really. I sat in for one, got disgusted and left. They'll ask you questions like, "What do you think you can contribute to the future of Singapore?" or my absolute favourite, "What advantages do you feel Singapore should develop on the global stage?" Basically they just want you to yak about How Great The PAP Is. It's sickening. And what people don't know is that schools like RJC, ACJC (and to a smaller extent, CJC) they TRAIN YOU TO SAY STUFF. Everyone nods the same time. Everyone says the same things. Everyone quotes the same national day rally speech. It's Regurgitation 101.
And the sad thing is most of these people can afford to go overseas, but simply want the scholarship for the "brand name".
The truth is you don't get to study what you want anyway. If you sign up for say....DBS or SPH, you'll end up having to do subjects which would BENEFIT that company. If you want to do something typically useless, most likley you'll have to get an MOE scholarship (which is dead easy, cos they have a 0% retention rate and NO criteria except a 6 year bond to
student slaveryteaching)I know alex is aiming for a scholarship. And most likely she'll get it. But I think in her case, she deserves it 'cos her parents won't pay for it. So I'm not that cynical about the scholarship system yet. I think if at least one person who deserves it can go - then it's somewhat worth it.
but yeah....most PSC scholars are shitasses. Rich whiny muggers with presudo intellectual discursives and wangsty to the core.
