Okaaaaaaaay.

I'm quite set on going to NUS's FASS and reading Literature/History/Pol Sci/Japanese Studies because of the lack of financial aid I actually have to send me to the US (don't get me started on my GPA...) And besides, I can safely use my A Level results (which come out in Feb/March 2007) instead of my Prelim results that come out around September/October

But with my naive optimism, I need to make my applications to the US colleges/universities latest by January 1st. Early decision by November 15 (which I probably can't make it because it's during the middle of my exams). I'm tenuring for Amherst College and USC as my top choices.

But eh, my SAT score is... iffy (560 math egads, 660 verbal, 600 writing), and nowhere near to get me into any of the colleges I'm applying for. effing math, which i can probably shape up to at least a 660. cut me some slack, if you haven't done any math beyond simple addition sums for the past two years, you'd get a 560 too excuses, excuses.

And uh, I haven't taken my SAT IIs.

The current test dates left for me are:

October 14th
November 4th (which is out because my exams fall flat then)
December 2nd

And after that uh... It's past the Fall application deadlines and I'm screwed. I should have forseen this earlier.

Advice? From those who've experience the whole applications to the US universities system? Which I have no idea on how to go about, except by my own research and my school has NO ONE unlike a certain RJC which has all the resources and a dedicated guidance counselor...

I mean, other than saying that "OH GOD, SOSHI IS SCREWED".

EDIT:
And hey Hans? Is my copy of D/D out in the mail yet? <3

I sent in all of my college applications in October, and I did mine later than a lot of people. If you're going to highly competitive schools, you should be applying in September. Not as prestigeous schools you can wait until October or so, but the earlier you apply, the more scholarships you'll get. Also, the less competetive school you apply to, the more scholarships you'll get. Mmmm, scholarships. If I were you, I'd take the SATs again and try to get a better score and take the ACTs as well. The ACTs just basically give you another chance, and I thought they were more accurate subject wise than the SATs. Er, and not to be a Debbie Downer, but I got a 2130 on my SATs and didn't even think of applying to schools like USC *sweatdrop* Erm...yeah.

Yeah, the whole time constraint thing is killing me because I currently don't have the time to work my SAT score up to at least a 2200. D: I'm far off. But I guess my priorities is just getting my A Levels over and done with because it's a 3 month marathon race for me.

But thanks for the advice! Looks like I can't make it in for freshman year, but I'll try for a transfer from my local university.

:D

Remember to call/email them to check if they recieved your application. I got a friend who was screwed over cos they LOST HER APPLICATION. Can you imagine? And she lives in LA too. If I were you, I'll send in early just in case it got lost, so I have enough time to send/fax another copy over.

Also, if you're an international student you need to include a letter of finance (aka. your parents' bank statements) to prove that you have enough $$ to pay for your stay in US. If you're applying for busary, I really suggest you do it ASAP cos the admin there sucks (plus the $$ usually goes to locals).

Try for the Dec 2 deadline cos your last exam (paper 8 lit) is on the 24th Nov. You can still make it. And really, SAT is pretty easy lar....just give them what they want (which is a standard AQ answer/high school essay). My friend said the shorter it is, the less likely you make mistakes. No need for sophistication. Just a nice, typical essay about 2 sides. (they mark by structure I believe)

good luck yeah!
ahahaha....I'll be on my way to UK!:D <--- needs an AAB
