This house believes that idolization of public personalities is shallow. Now how am I supposed to oppose that statement? Let me rephrase my frustration, how do I convince the judges otherwise? The good thing is that you can intepret "public personalites" to include everyone from politicians to pop-stars. That's the problem. What if the proposition set the definition to idolization of popstars? Augh. Why did I even let myself be pulled into this inter-class debating competition.
I absolutely (its quite obvious that I'm inflating my own ego right now XP) dislike it when my English teacher says things like, "You should all follow Alicia! See how good she is in English!" or "Why don't you read what Alicia wrote? It was very good!" and yada yada yada. I mean, now everyone in the whole freakin' class (even the person who's supposed to be better in English than me) has this mindset that "Alicia is the best! Alicia is brilliant!!". That equals to "Alicia should take part in the speech competition! Alicia should take part in the debate!!" .....>_< So what if I'm always top in class XD for that subject, it doesn't really mean anything.
Well, about today's debate workshop. I went with Sylvia and Lee Yuan (who is the uber cool English/E Lit genius). The other two members of my class' debate team had a hockey match to attend, so good for them. XO The people selected last year to attend another debating workshop were the ones who explained everything to us (I failed that audition by rambling nonsense. XD), so I tried my best to understand the complex terminology they were using. Then the WORST part came. We split up into 3 groups, and within those 3 groups, we further divided ourselves into two groups. Then we had a casual debate. Our motion was, "This house feels that abortion should be allowed", and again, I was in the opposition. And although I kicked ass the other time in class, I totally embarrassed myself. I rambled nonsensically about some random point, and showered everyone with holy water (if you get what I mean). >_<||||| Then one girl went, "Did you have to do that?" Well, I'm sorry. I didn't have to do that, but I couldn't stop myself. I can't control the amount of saliva that accumalates in my mouth, when I'm talking like a tape on fast-foward now, can I? After that, I shut my mouth up for the rest of the workshop.
I got to see my term report... And I have to say it looks really good. Its not the best, but I'm in the top 10 of my class I think (though, my class standard is relatively bad XD). I got 24 for my L1R5 (GCE O Level grading system) so that means leaps and bounds of improvement from last year (where I got 31). As you can tell, the lower you get, the better you are. So I'm aiming for below 10 points. Which, I'm on my way to achieving. Yay. I sense much happiness from my parents. XD
Feh. I've got to do my Chemistry and English (bleh) homework now. D: Baibai~
