mit einigen Kräften
werden wir wehren dem großen Rade,
über welches die mächtigen Wasser gehn,
die rauschen und schnauben--
denn: wehe, sie werden auferstehn.
So ist ihr Glauben: groß und ohne Gnade.'

I want to join with you,
face next to face,
at your side;
with united strengths
we will stem the great wheel
over which the powerful waters run,
roaring and spewing--
then: alas, they will resurrect.
