spiderpig: (:D! okama-papa loves cake)
Mmm, a long time since I used the 'concert' tag! I'm so happy to use it again - ah my baby come here to Papa!

PLAY! A Video Game Symphony was absolutely awesome. Thanks GameAxis for the tickets!

More tomorrow when I get pulled away from my DS but highlights were obviously One-Winged Angel, the heart-rendering Kingdom Hearts Arrangement (using Utada Hikaru's song as the main theme) and the Final Fantasy rock-symphony - I think the title was... I can't remember at the moment. But I'm very very sure it was a Black Mages piece. Like AWEOME. If Uematsu was here to perform it with the Black Mages, I'd die happy.

Overall, kudos to the Singapore Festival Orchestra and Choir for a wonderful performance. The pieces were no easy feat (wtf the chords were freakin' complex on some arrangements, like the composer was drunk or something) and it took a lot of effort and practice to deliver such a performance. From a musician to musicians, thank you very much. I enjoyed myself thoroughly.

One thing though, I think proper concert etiquette should be taught to all school-going kids and like adults too. Some people I feel, didn't even show the basic respect for the performers and the Conductor. Like what's up with that? These people put in hours of blood and sweat to give you this concert - the least thing you could do is show them a little respect by sitting properly. You don't have to sit like some uptight faggot from the upper ranks of the Army, but at least sit up. Dude.

Anyway, :D excellent stuff. Come back here some time later for a more detailed commentary on the concert. A.k.a give me time to remember the repertoire!

It's late, I've written alot and I should sleep so that I can blog about the GE Zouk event later. 'slong!
spiderpig: (FYI)
I feel somewhat sad when my dad insists that I'm too tomboyish (dude, wtf?) and that in order to succeed in the world, I need to dress up (and by that he means dress up), put on make up and basically, be a lady. No seriously, I'm no feminist but sometimes this whole "be a girl" and "you're a girl" thing is kind of annoying. I'm not gearing for gender equality here, but more of a "stop using your sex as an excuse". So more or less subconsciously since young, I've rebelled against this and here I am now. Nearly 100% anti-dress/skirt, minimal makeup for special occasions and your very own brazen, loud-mouthed Soshi. Product of a very colourful and pseudo-liberal childhood.

OKAY! SO TO THE TOPIC AT HAND!. THE ONE WHERE I TOUCHED HAKKYU KIM NOT ONE BUT TWO TIMES!!! Some people don't get what I'm all excited about but for someone who was a hardcore Ragnarok Online player (I can't use "gamer" because it offends certain people :\), touching Hakkyu Kim was quite awesome.

I had a hell of a time trying to find someone to brave Zouk with me because Ellyne's boss was bitch a literal bitch, the guys were all running errands or getting plagued by army stuff (wtf, Team Man! where's the support!), the girls were all flying around Malaysia (no seriously, most of them were), and everyone else was just busy. Quite a sad thing. I felt rather unloved at that time. I'm joking. So anyway (imagine me saying that in a valley girl voice), Tsu sacrificed her sanity and time to go with me after her loli meetup. Uh yeah, that's wright right, I was walking around Zouk with a girl dressed in loli. One more to add to the books!

Alright, I didnt' get to fufil my otaku dreams of queueing up at the entrance of Zouk because it was raining and I was being lazy and didn't want to wake up on time. Nevertheless, with a very pink Tsu beside me, I accomplished every otaku's basic quest! To queue for a game/console!! Well okay, there was barely a queue so that probably doesn't actually count - but still! :D I swear I will be present at the Wii's proper launch, or at least just fangirl outside of the venue next time.

I totally forgot to bring my Pre-Registration sheet, so I don't get to go into the uber elite "PRE-REGISTERED" queue and instead have to go join the non-existent "Non-registered guests" queue. There was literally no one there when I was o'er, versus the slow movie preregistered queue. Sometimes being forgetful has its benefits.

Inside is incredibly crowded. I hate crowds. I like having a one metre radius around me kthx bye. Somehow, I had imagined Zouk to be much larger and less cramped. I was kinda of like "meh, this is Zouk? This is what everyone raves about?" when I walked around but mm oh well. I'm a detractor from clubs and like I told someone, I like to have alcohol in the privacy of my home. Or in a pub with screaming ang mohs over a football match, or trying to be psuedo-sophisticated in a highclass bar. No cramped clubs for me! The place is over-wrung with every kind of guy imaginable. We've got the uber geeks to the ah bengs to the "It pains me to be here but I love the game" kind of guys. There's a sizeable smattering of girls around (hey [livejournal.com profile] blackpeace! I think I saw you! I think you might have seen [livejournal.com profile] tsu_! :D()() ) which also range from the uber geek to "this game changed my view about games!" and the "I'm just here because my boyfriend is here".

There should be more "I'm here because my girlfriend is here" kind of guys. Though, they are kind of spineless. =A=;;

I think I kind of saw the Hill Giant but I was too distracted by pushing my way through the crazy crowd to take notice. So amidst the swarm of Granado Espada characters and NPCs, we seek refuge at the top of the stairs, at this mosaic-ed seating area. The emcees are warming up the crowd by asking random game-related questions, and I'm left thinking "where's the school band performance!", later there's an introduction to the Granado Espada character classes and lots of guys in the front were made very happy that afternoon. Heh.

I only hung around for an hour or so because we were getting bored because nothing much was really happening so after meeting Leon for a bit we left. Nothing very important lah so let's go on.

OH HEY WAIT A SECOND I FORGOT TO TALK ABOUT HAKKYU KIM.

I waffled at the base of his autograph-signing location and finally went up (before meeting my friend) and handed him my boxset (yes I bought the boxset...) and said "Annyohaseyo~~~~", pardon my bad Korean phonetics!, and had a cheerful "Nice to meet you!" in reply. Then he shook my head. I mean, hand. zomg hakkyu kim shook my hand. :DDDDD

And then, when we were leaving I walked past him and my arm brushed up against his. This is the start of a very good school year. I have Hakkyu Kim luck all over. (Plus, the previous night, I was walking side by side with Takenobu Mitsuyoshi for a while!! SO YEAH. THIS IS GOOD.) This is a good omen. Wait, that's rather contradictory - I mean, a good sign. I think stupidity is catching.

I've just started listening to the Granado Espada soundtrack and I'd just like to confirm my love for Japanese composers. They give the saxophone, and namely the baritone saxophone the love it deserves. There's awesome riffs (okay, bad terminology) and solos on Kubota Osamu's tracks!

I'm now officially really kind of broke (in my standards). GE Boxset, Kateigaho, Fables 9 (AHAHAH FIRST FEW WHO BOUGHT IT >DDDD ), soap. Yeah soap.

Anyway, I should get off my ass and start on some serious writing for the GPA. I should give it a shot, with other things too, since I probably am going to become a starving bohemian geek writer in the near future. What better way than to start now? I've even stocked up on commone's coffee and fruit-by-the-foot for sugar rushes! In the mean time, I need to relieve my secondary school days with Monkey Islandness.
