A punch to the head
Apr. 1st, 2005 12:05 amI don't even know how to say how depressed I am. But why should the news come as a disappointment? It's really so wrong of it not to happen. I can only just try my best to forget about it. I'm speechless. I'm whining, and I'm just really downright sad.Why is the world doing this to me? Do you hate me so much, world?
Sigh.
Yeah, so today we had our first taste (at least for the second intakers) of what the lectures were like in CJC. We had all three subjects that most of us were taking today. All my sentences sound wrong. Well anyway, the lectures we had today were of Economics, History and Literature.
The Economics lecture was a total disaster. No one really wanted to pay attention to the teacher (Mrs Kuah, I think) at all. She just went through the course contents and scarred all our wallets with the expensive subcription rates for the required Economic texts. Notes are already $11, the assessment book is $10, the magazine subscriptions add up to around $130... Studying is hell expensive.
History was much, much better. The lecturer, of whose name I can't spell, is really passionate about the topic and also really fervernt in her dislike for caucasians. Snicker. She's a no-nonsense type, but she's funny and dramatic at the right times too. I'm going to either enjoy the subject under her or just suffer really badly. I hope it's the former. >__> I like history. She kept on emphasising how A Level History is not easy at all and that I have loads to catch up with. Oh dear.
OH EM GEE. The Literature lecturer for Brave New World (one of the six text's we're studying), Dr Fahy, is a GOD. I swear, I've never ever met as great a lecturer as he. He's witty, satirical, well-read... He obviously knows what he's talking about and even though he speaks to us in that condescending manner, I just can't help be respect him a lot. He is that good. Like WOAH. And he actually makes me feel relatively smart, whilst he made many of my classmates feel stupid. Harhar. His subtitle 'O Brave New World!' stood out to me. It was familiar but I couldn't place my finger on it. Later he mentioned that that line was from The Tempest. :o Enlightenment. I remember writing down "satirical!" on my notebook after hearing his description about Huxley. Note, I haven't read the book before, though I've heard of it. Five minutes later he mentioned how BNW was a huge satire. HOHO. I felt clever. X3
So really, I can't wait to go for History and Literature lectures. I feel so bloody studious! And with me not taking any Math (AO or A) or AO Chinese, I just have 4 subjects to really work hard on. The fourth being the General Paper. Economics is like... not really impressionable on me at the moment, but I'll judge it when the teacher actually starts teaching.
( Lunch break )
( Bitchin'! )
Okay. Enough bitchin'. I want to go to sleep. I'm depressed and I hope I'll have some horrible nightmare to chase the dread away.
Sigh.
